Evil Dead is a 2013 American horror film co-written and directed by Fede Alvarez. It is the fourth installment of the Evil Dead franchise, serving as both a reboot and as a loose continuation of the series. It is the first not to be directed by Sam Raimi. The film is the feature debut of Alvarez, whom Raimi selected. It was produced by Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Robert G. Tapert: the writer-director, lead actor, and producer of the original trilogy respectively. The film had its world premiere at the South by Southwest festival on March 8, 2013. On March 9, it was announced that a sequel was in development.
In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five
twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they
discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons
living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession
until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
